Europa im Gespräch: EEA report „Europe‘s environment 2025 – Knowledge for resilience, prosperity and sustainability“

Event jointly organised by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, Climate and Environmental Protection, Regions and Water Management (BMLUK), together with the Environment Agency Austria and the European Commission Representation in Austria.

The goal of the European Green Deal is to guide the EU towards a more modern, resource-efficient and competitive economy. It sets out a plan to transform Europe’s economy, energy, transport, and industries for a more sustainable future. While implementation is now in the focus, the EU also has to tackle challenges, in terms of security, defence and competitiveness.

In these demanding times, the European Environment Agency, in close cooperation with its member states, published its report “Europe’s Environment 2025 – Knowledge for resilience, prosperity, and sustainability” in September 2025, a comprehensive analysis of the state of the environment and climate in Europe.

Where exactly do we stand now? To what extent are the impacts of the European Green Deal’s implementation already apparent in Europe, and are there tangible shifts resulting from the EU’s new policy priorities? Can we still pursue an ambitious environmental agenda in the EU despite current geopolitical developments?

Federal Environment Minister Norbert Totschnig and Leena Ylä Mononen, Executive Director of the European Environment Agency, will address these and other questions and present the report on January 27, 2026, at the House of the European Union in Vienna, together with other high-profile speakers.
